1 - How can I prepare?

Before scheduling with me, I hope you will have looked at my work and investigated other photographers as well. It is important that you actually speak with whomever you intend to work with, if only briefly. You will be creating your photo together so it is important to gauge whether or not you are comfortable with them.

The next step is the same whether you have representation or you are just starting out: you need to decipher which roles and characters are right for you. Speak with your agent or manager, talk with a friend or another actor; come up with a list of characters & roles that you should be auditioning for right now. Then consider the attitude and emotion behind these characters; find it in yourself and spend some time imagining the thoughts and emotions therein.

Next, look at my portfolio and jot down what photos you like and what simply didn’t work for you. Also feel free to bring in photos you’d like to emulate. I love creative suggestions and am happy to work toward a specific image.

Finally, plan your shoot day accordingly so that you arrive rested, well fed and energized. You can retouch stained teeth and blemishes on your skin but you can’t insert confidence and energy into the eyes.

***Please know that some agents and managers have really specific headshot dos and don’ts. Some like close ups and others prefer the upper third, some want a casual “snap-shot” look and others demand a clean studio style. So please give them the heads up that your getting new pics and see what thoughts they have.
